Día De Muertos
Día De Muertos takes place on November 1st & 2nd. It’s a very special holiday when we remember & honor our loved ones who’ve passed away.
During this holiday, people all over Mexico build ofrendas (altars) in their homes or at cemeteries. Ofrendas are decorated with bright orange flowers called cempasúchiles (marigolds), calaveras de azúcar (colorful sugar skulls), & papel picado (colorful paper banners).
Food, drinks, photos & personal belongings of the deceased are also added. All of these decorations, many of which symbolize earth, water, wind, & fire, help guide the spirits back to those living on Earth. During these days, families will gather around the ofrendas to celebrate & remember the departed.
Contrary to what some people might think, Día De Muertos is a joyous occasion filled with music & festivities. It is a celebration of life!
